Come on guys...let's not use this as a trading post. This is the OFFICIAL Brian Setzer forum. We all know we have access to bootlegs and we all love watching Brian in his many guises live and rareties, but i don't think we should list our trades on the forum.. Those of you who know me, know that i'm pretty anal about ALL artists and royalties. I know we can't stop the bootlegs, and I have them too, but I always make sure that I get an additional official release. Little did I know that all these years later, it would mean that i own shrink wrapped copies of STray Cats first album.... YES..unopened... LOL Mikey Gistapo

| I completely agree about this forum not being the ideal place for a trading post. You can certainly meet people here, and then trade via PMs or email, but a forum connected to the artist's official website is not the best place to set up a trading post. If you're a notoriously slow trader like myself, it can lead to all sorts of bad feelings. Plus, people posting huge lists are setting themselves up to an avalanche of trading requests, possibly forcing them into having to refuse all sorts of requests, running the risk of coming off like a jerk. I've seen disputes break out on other artists' boards over trades, and it just isn't worth all the potential badwill that can happen.
If you see someone discussing a great show they've heard or seen, why not PM them and see if they have a copy of the show and are willing to trade for it? Maybe they'll do you a kindness if they have a mammoth collection and you're just starting out. It's a rewarding journey if you're willing to put forth the effort.
As for Mikey's practice of buying an "official" release to stimulate revenue for the artists, it's a noble act, to be sure. But you have to make a real effort to make a purchase that benefits the artist. Stray Cats haven't put out an official release or re-issue for years, save for "Rumble in Brixton," and this year's "Blast Off" and "Rock Therapy" re-issues. So if you pick up your "official" release from eBay or an Amazon re-seller, you're likely buying a previously-purchased item, and your purchase is 100% to the benefit of the seller, and 0% to the artist. That 10-inch vinyl version of Choo Choo Hot Fish on eBay was originally purchased back in 1992, and any future changing of hands thrills both the buyer and seller, but is of no benefit to the artist. And yet, these avenues are vital to those of us wishing to gain access to the complete catalog. Who is selling brand-new copies of "Let's Go Faster" for example?
I remember in the early 1990s, there was a movement by some recording artists to urge music stores to stop selling "used" music (this was in the days before downloading music was possible.) It gained very little momentum, partly because many retailers had a large "previously owned" inventory that generated significant income.
I arrived pretty late to the mp3 and digital download scene, but it is a pretty cool way to have access to albums that would never see the light of day on a proper re-issue. Hightone Records, for example, has a treasure trove of great music that has been out of print for ages now available on iTunes. As far as I can tell, it's a way to re-discover older releases where the purchases can still benefit the artists involved.
So keep fighting the good fight, Mikey! It can't be easy sticking to those principles.

Vegetarian Omelet-billy Cheers Senor Omelet-billy, AKA Sir Rick of Billy-dom! Yeah I know what you mean. When i talk about an official release, I mean going to a regular store and buying otc. My crazy ideals may be misplaced, however, during the 80's it means that I bought plenty of pristine original albums. For instance, am I the only person in the world (lol) with an unopened shrink wrapped Stray Cats first album. And I remember buying it from Virgin for £3.49, because I'd got a bootleg of the Radio 1 & 2 broadcasts, and felt gui;ty about depriving the three guys of royalties. How naive was I? I had no idea of how corrupt the business is or was. However, it made me feel better if I bought a bootleg, to get another official release. I have way too many LP's of the Cats early albums.... Stray Cats: Greatest Hits well, I think that Greatest hits DON´t have VERY INTERESTING interwiew, that was in Stray Tracks originally(comments about every song, about early Stray Cats days, how videos were made etc). Everybody should see Rockpalast 1981 recording and 1989 Finland, kaivopuisto,Helsinki is also very good(except Brian´s jacket, which is AWFUL!!...even matches Tribute to Buddy Holly custome ha,ha)
