Anyone noticed from the photos of the current tour that Jim usually uses a goldish coloured sparkle kit - yet at one gig he is photographed using a red kit ?

Any idea why ?

Dave

As long as Brian brings a whole bunch of Gretsches, maybe Jim wanted to bring more than one kit...? Just guessing... Smile

Actually the answer is really simple. (I assist in Artist relations for Gretsch Drums and help handle Jim's drumkits).

When they tour overseas, It would cost a lot of money in shipping and whatnot to send the same kit, (New Classic Vintage Glass) all over the world. So, to save money, they use back-line companies that store drum kits that we loan to them. So when a band goes overseas, all they have to do is have the back-line company closest to the venue send over a kit and all the band has to carry is the logo drumhead. Whenever Jim is local, he uses his regular New Classic kit. Hope this helps!!

Jazz Cat, thanks for that info, interesting to hear how it is done. I guess on that day the nearest backline company didn`t have the same finish in stock, hence the red one.

Hard work for the drum tech though, tuning a different kit each night !!!
.....

and reinforcing the bass drum each time so they can stand/dance etc on it !!

Cheers

Dave

Nice to read how this is done, but if a band like Stray Cats have to do that... I don't really think so.

For the same reason, Lee nor Brian would play the same guitars nor basses or even use the same amps...
