Subject: Is this Brian in the early days ? Mon Jun 23, 2008 5:22 pm
So, i`m watching Blondie on You Tube, her drummer is excellent and i am learning to play, hence my interest.
I come across this. There is a blonde guy sitting behind the drummer, has a quiff..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95AEzyWZX8I
you get the best views of him in the first parts of the video. 17 secs and 31 secs.
Now, i know Blondie are from NY, is this Blonde guy Brian ?
Anyone know ?
Dave

Yeah, that's Dibbs. Maybe we can persuade him to post an explanation. He's been a member of this forum since day one. C'mon Preston....let's hear about it.

My question to Dibbs:
Are you doing the "Hand Jive" behind Ms. Harry?

It is a great song, it`s like one long drum solo all the way through, i`ll be leaving it out of my repertoire for a while longer, more practice needed before i try that one !!

You'll notice it says "Debbie have a crush on Budgie," making Debbie similar grammatically to Blondie - a collection of individuals, suitable for use with the verb "have" rather than "has". You and Ms. Harry didn't form a band while I was away, did you? (Is the band's name "Debbie" or "The Debbie?")
As for the crush on Budgie, what can I say? We're only human!

Hell... when I read it quick I thought it said "Dibbsie have a Budgie crush"!!
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Still waiting to hear Mr. Preston give us his recollections of Ms. Harry & the gang...

I don't think his wife would be too happy about it, though...

Mrs. Preston is very aware of Budgie's errrr....."thing"......with Dibbs. We're all aware of it and a bit disgusted by it. Having said that, we love Budge and support his "lifestyle" although none of us really relate to it.
Dibbs told me last night that he is typing a manifesto to fill you all in on that Blondie video shoot. Quite an interesting story. By the way, that's Levi Dexter on Dibb's right and Smutty Smith is sitting next to Levi.

Hey... It was a one time thing and there was LOTS of vodka involved... The very lovely Mrs. Preston tried her best to stop it, but after a while she just gave up and left the room. Which was probably for the best.
Made that move, Budge Preston

Here's some memories of the 1979 Blondie "Dreamin" video shoot by Dibbs Preston.
I remember we (Levi and the Rockats) had just been in London doing some shows and we were stopping over in NYC on our way back to Los Angeles to appear live on Wolfman Jack's Midnight Special TV show.
It was July/August 1979 and our manager at the time, Lee Black Childers told us ''Darlings, we're all going uptown to SIR studios to watch Debbie make a new video.'' Well, we thought that was real cool because two years earlier Blondie and Levi and the Rockats were all hanging out together at one of Lee's famous BBQ's in Islington, London. Levi, Smutty and myself put our best cat clothes on, pomped up our hair and wore our new white pimp shoes.
We met Leee at the bar and all got the subway uptown to SIR studio's where there were thousands of kids hanging around hoping to get a look at Blondie. "We're guests of Debbie's'' said Lee to the bouncer at the door.We went in and it was also crazy crowded with kids, crew and sound technicians all walking about.
After a while we got to say Hi to Debbie and the band in the dressing room. I got my 8x10 glossy photo signed by all the band which I still have.' 'You gonna be in the video right?'' said their drummer Clem Burke. Where do you want us to stand? Smutty said. ''How about sitting all together right behind me'' said Clem that way you're sure to be seen.
All the kids filed in to the sound stage and started climbing up the scaffolds that were set up behind the band. We took up our positions just up a bit behind Clem. The band started going through the tune a few times. The track got real loud, it was their great hit 'Dreaming' the kids started crazy dancing and climbing around the scaffold.''What are we gonna do?'' I said to Levi.'' How about doing the hand jive for a laugh'' he said.''We'll look like like a bunch of fags Smutty said, ''up yours'' I said, Anyway we had a go and you can see us doing it.
A few weeks later I spoke to my sister Peggy in London on the phone and she said excitedly 'Ere I just saw you lot on Top of the Pops'' I said how? ''On the new Blondie video'' Being the early days of video and pre MTV no one really knew where it would be shown and certainly never dreamt of things like Youtube. But after all this time the song and video still ROCKS !!
