| Hey cats and kittens!
I'm looking for feedback.. any information... about the Gretsch Tribute Setzer 59' 6120 guitars that came out in 2007. I know they made 59 of them and they're all sold out for the most part... but what can anyone tell me about the actual guitar?
I know REAL 59 6120s are out there in the 10k range and these Setzer's are a 30k list when you can find them!!!!
Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks! God bless!

| [img] [/img] Hello there, I obviously couldn't afford 30k so I bought a second hand 6120 reissue (pre Fender) from e-bay and we went to work on it (see pic attached) - cost about 2k (dollars) including the guitar, the relicing and a pro set up. What do you think? Most people thought i was mad to take a shiny Gretsch and make it look 50 years old! I haven't seen the limited edition in the flesh so can't really comment quality wise on the real thing. Tony | |

| Wow! Very nice looking job Tony!
Where did you get all the stickers and stuff?
Any other shots? Back? Headstock? I'd love to see the whole enchilada!
Thanks!

| Hello Popeye, I've attached some pics - my cameras not too good i'm afraid but the relic job is much better in the flesh (the finish has been matted and crazed to give an aged appearance). The stickers were from ebay - the guy said he worked at the Gretsch factory but looking at the genuine article the cat sticker looks bigger than mine. Oh well, for 28k less i'm not complaining. The most difficult bit was finding red carpet tape - ended up painting some normal tape but it looks OK. You can get the dice pretty easily. Tony [img] [/img][img] [/img][img] [/img][img] [/img] | |

| Very cool, thanks Tony! You do good work! hahaha!
That is a good price indeed... but I still can't seem to rationalize 8 or 9k for a 59 6120 replica when you can still get MINT ones for around the same price! And the new 6120s are actually better made nowdays anyways! It's whack! LOL
But 30k is list anyways... sale price is supposed to be around 18k... 2k for what you created Tony is a job well done! Congrats!

| Have seen one on ebay for £7000 - plus £70 shipping to UK - dealer is based in Germany.
I bought all the stickers from ebay dealers total about £5.00
I've got a White Falcon so don't really want to stick anything on there but might check out the Electromatic version and see if the orange one looks worthy of the effort to 'Setzer-ise' it!
Re the posting somewhere else on the Guitar section how you can't play rockabilly on an Ibanez Jem - I've got an Ibanez RG2620 - looks like total metal-style guitar -but can get great rockabilly sound from it -I've also got Strat, Les Paul and Dano U2 and can make them all sound rockabilly approved with a bit of effort re adjusting tone etc. | |
